The Rascal Unit

Our 2023 Spay Neuter Events will be held in conjunction with RASCAL Unit out of Dublin, Ohio.  RASCAL vans travel throughout Ohio with the help of local humane organizations, pounds, and shelters. RASCAL brings affordable pet care to local communities, including sterilization (spay/neuter), vaccinations, de-worming, and flea/tick treatments. BCARL administration fee of $30 will be added to help with the cost of running the clinic and/or raise funds to help the animals in their care.

Spay/Neuter Additional Costs

  • If a female dog is in heat, there will be an additional fee of $6. Please keep in mind that large breed, overweight and older dogs in heat have a higher risk. For this reason, we may turn away a dog after the initial exam if we do not feel they are a good surgical candidate. The in-heat charge does not apply to cats.

  • Pregnant dogs and cats will be charged $5.00 – $10 extra.

  • If a male dog or cat is a cryptorchid (testicles have not fully descended), the cost of the procedure will be the cost of the neuter plus up to the full price of a spay for the same size.

  • If a pet is found to be spayed after sedation, there will be a $25.00 fee.

  • If a female dog or cat is found to be already spayed during surgery, the regular surgery fee will apply (exploratory laparotomy).

  • If a pet does not have written proof of a current Rabies vaccine given by a licensed veterinarian, the vaccine will be given the day of surgery at a cost of $10.00.

  • Pet’s presented for surgery that are not able to have a procedure done (already sterilized, sick, injured) will be assessed a $15 brief pre-operative exam fee.

  • Pre-Anesthetic Bloodwork for dogs/cats (chemistry only) available on site

  • E-Collars available 

  • Ear tipping for feral / stray cats is recommended and can be done upon caretaker request at no additional charge.

  • Heartworm Testing: $30 (with lyme/ehrlichia/anaplasma for dogs)

  • Fecal Testing: $20-35 (With Giardia check (submitted to outside lab))

  • Anal Sac Expression: $18

  • Microchip: $30

  • Nail Trim: $15 (Surgery patients can receive a nail trim at no charge)

  • Exam/Wellness Visit: $15

Cats

  • Feline Leukemia / FIV Test: $35

  • Fecal Testing: $20-35

Prices subject to change based on cost increases. Laboratory services, medications and other items may have a different pricing the day of the clinic. Please ask the hosting group about current pricing at check-in.

SPAY/NEUTER ASSISTANCE

IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO HAVE YOUR PET SPAYED OR NEUTERED: BCARL offers a SNAP program which provides assistance to those in financial need which helps cover the cost of spay and neuter surgery.  SNAP certificates will now be accepted at our low cost spay neuter events only.  To see the income or need requirements for the SNAP program, please go to our SNAP program page.  Those who qualify for the SNAP program will need to fill out a separate form on that page instead of the general event form.  They will have a reduced down payment also due at the time of pre-registration.  For more information or to register for the event using SNAP, click the link below.

READ BEFORE REGISTERING

  • Turn off pop up blockers. If you click the link via Facebook, open the page in Safari or Chrome. The link has trouble loading directly from Facebook.

  • When active, the registration form is below. You must follow all procedures and pay the $30 down payment (includes $2 fee to offset Paypal costs) to register your animal.  If you complete the form but do not pay the deposit, you will not have a spot reserved.

  • You can also visit our office at 41981 National Rd., Belmont, OH 43718 to complete a form and make a $30 deposit.  Call before going to the office. 740-782-9712

  • This event will fill quickly and spaces are limited. 

  • Any appointment once made and paid for CANNOT be rescheduled, changed or refunded. If the owner cancels, is a “no show” or cannot catch the animal, etc, your fees WILL NOT BE REFUNDED.

  • A confirmation email will be sent a day or 2 before the event. Please read it carefully and follow the instructions in the email. It will include day before instructions, drop off times, and the location of the event.

  • Actual costs will be calculated based on weight adjustment and additional services rendered the day of surgery.  Please be prepared to pay the balance in full the day of surgery.  All price estimates can be adjusted based on factors the day of the event. We accept cash and credit/debit cards as payment.

Additional Information

  • Drop off times will be provided in the confirmation email. 

  • Please plan plenty of time at drop-off to complete further medical information on your pet. It can take 15-30 minutes depending on how many animals you bring.

  • All animals must be picked up the same day.  You must be available once called for pick up which can range in time from noon to 8 PM. You must pick up your pet within one (1) hour of the pick-up call.

  • All dogs/cats must be up to date on rabies vaccinations. If your dog/cat is current, you must leave proof of current rabies vaccination with your pet. Tags will not be accepted. Otherwise, your dog/cat will receive the vaccine at a cost of $10.00 per pet.

  • Cats must be in a carrier. If there are multiple cats, each cat must be in its own carrier.

  • No food after midnight the night before surgery (water is okay).

  • There will be restrictions for your dog/cat for up to 7 days.
